I think most experienced racers would agree that speed has very little relevance when choosing which class to race in. I think that it's sound advice to point this out to a newcomer who appears to think the opposite through what must be pure lack of race experience.

More experienced racers should be pointing the newcomers in the correct direction not just leaving them to make silly mistakes.

By answering the question then you are effectively watching them make a mistake.

By questioning the question you are making sure they are asking the question for the right reasons and pointing them in the right direction.
