You need to start with the simplest things to test and then work your way to the more complex serious possible causes.

Simple things to check:

Tickover - if it's too low the engine will cut out.
Fuel - If it's old fuel it's best not to use.
Fuel/oil ratio, use 'Shell M' and mix it at a ratio of 1 part of oil to 16 parts of fuel
Fuel filter - change and get a brand new one
Fuel Pipe - make sure it's nice and new and soft so it provides a good seal.
Carb settings - You need 2 turns on the low jet and 1/4 turn then back off a touch on the high jet
Starter - make sure the battery has got plenty of power.
On / Off switch - Make sure it's not faulty and it's properly switch on.
Spark plug - Make sure you are getting a spark.
Airbox - Remove it and check that the air filter hasn't fallen off inside the airbox.
Fuel level - check that you have got plenty of fuel to cover the fuel pipe inside the tank, make sure that you have a weight on the end of the pipe to hold it down inside the tank. Also make sure that the fuel is getting up to the carb, if it isn't then you need to choke it until the fuel comes through the pipe and release just as it enters the carb.
Pulse pipe - Check that it's connected properly and that you have the pulse pipe and the fuel pipe the right way round.

Think that's most of the basics covered, I'm sure if I've missed something others will be on here later to point it out.

Remember if you have tried starting it over and over then you might have flooded the engine. If you have flooded the engine then it will be near impossible to start it. You need to drain out and excess fuel/oil and change the spark plug and dry the carb out and possibly air filter.
