Thanks for the advice, can't afford new karts so he'll be forever in used karts! Frame is straight, and I've got new bits on it, spent quite a lot of time getting the seat in what seams like a good position but until we start it's difficult to tell I guess. The seat fits across the shoulders just fine but the hips are loose. I was planning on using the closed cell type foam racing seats used to be covered in before they were sized. Might not be ideal but compromises have to be made.

What kind of weights did you use? Just diving weights or similar? Have you got a link to a good supplier?
