Lack of setup experience for the greater part. Sorry this reply is so late, but the basic feature of the new wets that caught a lot of us out is that they need loads of pressure when it's really wet, and substantially less if it starts drying out. Lots of people reckon to use 30 - 40 psi in full wet, but on a damp track you might need less than 20 psi to stop the tyres overheating.
Not sure how wet Kimbolton was today, but Wombwell was incredibly wet for the first half of the day, and dried to the point where there were dry patches, but no dry line by the final. No-one overheated their tyres or appeared to have them wear out really fast. I think the new tyres are pretty good.
