Below is text off of Zip North website which states it does charge.

The new TAG engine has a revised crankcase, modified crankshaft, high quality starter motor, new ultra strong clutch and new specification ignition system with built in over-rev guard. Its benefits include a clever electronics package which re-charges the battery once the engine has started, avoiding the common problem of a flat battery.
