Noted Dave, the important word here is 'young', to drive a race kart to anywhere near a competitive pace or just off a competitive pace, takes skill, fitness, stamina, upper body strength, concentration, bravery!, etc. most of which I score low on so I'm slow and the 'youngsters' score high on so they are fast.
I have raced off road cars a long time ago and have had my fair share of fast road cars in my time, all of which from first impressions on my first session, were much easier to drive than the race kart!
