Agree with you Alan.

If the coils are that different to give a significant advantage on any particular track, then they are probably faulty (or have been modified) and liable to be unreliable.

Besides, getting a fixed ignition exactly right is exactly right for only one set of circumstances, as soon as those circumstances varied, you would be back with everyone else who was not quite right but near enough.
