I have tried this at three sisters with the visor taped up on a hire kart when I worked there.
I had done 15 years worth of laps in a variety of race karts as well.
You can achieve a reasonable pace, but you will NEVER get to within 2 seconds, and certainly not on a tight twisty track like rye where braking is important.
You can build up pace, and believe it or not just things like the engine note and bumps in the track can provide clues as to where you are......BUT.....driving in a straight line is harder than you imagine, and you only really know where you are when you hit a kerb or wander to the edge of the track.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend it :D
