If you have changed from silicon to Dot 4 you may be getting a nasty reaction between the two fluids. You get a nasty spongy gloop which stays springy and doesn't push fluid along properly.

Completely flush the system with whatever you decide to use, it doesn't really matter which just make sure there is only one type of fluid in there.
