They disintegrate on a drying track but when they arrive new, they have small 'pimples' on the tread that you need to wear off otherwise you'll have limited grip for the first few laps in the wet.

If you want to be prepared for this, then a very steady lap in the dry should help but take it very easy. Just do one lap though and then inspect the tyre. That should be enough.
