Hey minimaxdad:
If you're looking to buy a used engine "try before you buy" is worth asking for. Test against your known engine. If your driver can turn laps within a tenth a good engine will show on the watch and the driver will tell you about its top middle and bottom end.
Alternatively go to a respected sealing agent with a dyno and get it run against his known good engine on the day. Its not helpful to just look at dyno charts, the daily variance in air pressure, temp & humidity means that any engine will produce different charts on different days. Dyno testing must be back to back on any given day.
