It sounds as if someone has tried to beef up the part of the axle where the power is put thru , are the peg locating holes still circular or have they gone elongated which would mean the keyway is not so firmly held now in which case the internal axle may have been added to help with this . Or just a way to prevent this from happening in the first place ...
