bertoliniii as the insert is 6" long on an inboard sprocket it would not alter the back end grip at all mate. These inserts which go under the sprocket carrier are quite common on certain makes of kart and are designed to give the axle some more strength in this area. They are not essential though, so if your new axle doesn't come with one in don't worry.
If you really wanted to you could possibly take the insert out of the old axle and put in in the new one, provided the internal diameter of the new axle is the same and the insert isn't damaged. Hope this helps
