After unshipping a chain while testing, I've fitted pairs of the gold anodised aluminium sprocket protectors (bought off eBay, as they were the best price). I used longer s/s bolts (again, eBay) with s/s washers to space the one sprocket protector off the face of the sprocket, and the other sits tight against the other side of the sprocket carrier, so there's just a nice amount of clearance to prevent the chain rattling against the protectors. I know some people say they use the plastic ones, as they are less prone to bending over and binding the chain than the alloy ones, but after seeing how mine stood up to some kerbriding I'm happy with what I fitted.

Just checking over the kart after my last test session, I noticed one of the inboard protectors had obviously been doing its job, as the anodising was scraped and scored where I'd hooked it up on a kerb or edge of the tarmac (I now know what that loud scraping/shrieking sound was!!).

If your chains are repeatedly jumping, you could be running them too loose, or they may simply be stretched and worn.
