When fitting the inner part of the clutch into the drum you do make sure the very thin washer is between then dont you? Also when fitting to the crankshaft you are putting the large tapered washer on first then the clutch followed by M8 washers to pack out the end of crank to end of clutch mechanism , so that when you tighten it all up the clutch (not just the drum) the entire clutch has slight end float or else you will muller the bearing which will possibly run untrue and be very stiff possibly causing the issues you have described .... Let us know how you have fitted yours and if all parts listed abov are present and their condition .
