We weigh similar since he is already 3 inches taller than me....

As per the next comment - its about track time and the ability to rectify mistakes. I did a few 24hr endurances in my younger days and they were great social events that I would like to get back into.

Re the kit - I'm techy enough to look after the kart etc so not too worried about cost etc.

It more about being able to race together in a team. Everywhere seems to require the 16yrs minimum age.
