That is probably where most of us started.
It is difficult to say if a chassis is twisted/bent from measuring a few peripherals. Best to take the seat out and measure diagonally between a rear bearing hanger and say the front king pin bolt and check accross the front with lasers.
Chassis do get bent but look at stubs, track rods, king pins and steerin columns and check that camber and castor is set equally. Quick check with the kart on a flat surface with correct tyre pressure and front and rear spacing. Turn the steering full lock one way and measure the height of the raised fron wheel then do the same the other way - it should be about the same.
