engines with a taper on the crank end are normally used on direct drive generators.this means that the £40 defunct generator from the boot sale will not give you an engine that will go straight on to the kart. the crank alone will need replacing or modifying to take the clutch. if you are sensible and have a lathe in the kitchen not a dishwasher,you will be able to turn down the shaft to 3/4 inch nominal .the material varies from hard to v.hard but a carbide tipped tool will do it.
