A tight floor tray will have the tensile consistency of the floortray material, giving, in turn this consistency to the chassis as it flexes.

When the floor tray is loose, unless it is allowed to float on enlarged fixing holes, I guess that there will be a (variable) point at which the floortray will begin to tighten as the chassis flexes.

I reckon that if you tried a loose floortray, you would end up trying to add consistency and progressiveness back to handling by adding a torsion bar. Or retightening the floortray!
