Good work cleaning the disk.

That MAY be all it needed but you really ought to check before you go back to the track. Things that cen be fixed at home can take HOURS out of your 'driving' time at the track.

Do check that the axle does NOT move (left-right) in within the bearings using my 'hammer' trick, just to be CERTAIN. Fixing it is EASY at home with a drill and other cheap/household tools but is the very DEVIL of a job at the track. Check it at home, FIRST!

The noise from the disk is (probably) the remaining dust oin the disk and the pads which will disappear within 1 lap of the track..... if that's all it was.

SWRD (Wright) karts use a brake caliper that is split in two. The distance between the halves controls how close the pads run to the disk. The didtance is adjusted by using thin aluminium 'washers' (called 'shims') (shaped like half of the the caliper_ which you add/or remove once you have loosened/undone the two halves.

If the disk/pad clearance (gap) remains too narrow (and the axle is NOT loose) then you simnply insert a shim of the right size between the two halves. Get a small range of these shims into you tool kit BEFORE you go to the track. Call SWRD and they'll post some to you.

Yes: a long stip of Emery cloth, wrapped over the axle (while on a stand) and pulled back and forth, (like using a towel to dry our back) will return a beautiful shine to the axle. Brian is correct, though: oil/lightly-grease the shiney axle to reduce the rate at which rust returns.

You'll find the Emery cloth becomes a VERY good friend to karters!

Good luck

Ian
