No answer to your headline question so far. I have no idea how many; only a rough clue not worthy of spreading.

Short-term future, who knows? I think there still is a potential market; someone just has to find a way to tap it.
It would obviously be good for owner/drivers with broadly the same interest, i.e. high performance but 4-stroke, friendly and no demolition derbies, to pool their buying power.

Overall, the karting market is reported to be shrinking considerably. If true, such flexible, open-minded pooling is bound to become the norm. The sad irony is that ‘we’ should be enticing the likes of Formula Ford racers out of their cars in these cost-constrained times.

For the medium and longer term: How likely do you think it is that there will still be any of these noisy, smelly combustion-engine vehicles racing around in circles burning fossil fuel?

Surely we’re enjoying the last of all of this stuff. I’ll probably be buying a newer car soon, and, whatever it is, one thing I know for sure: it will be the last conventional petrol or diesel car I buy.
