I am not sure of the point the Diy71 is trying to make. The Honda classes benefit from relative low running costs. Chassis last for ages, engines are not expensive tobrebuild and can go for 50 hours or so between rebuilds ( sure Grants did last yeAr) and at a minimum we get 3 race meetings out of tyres and even then they are still good (Adam Suanders will have done 6 meetings as well as testing).

The big mistake in the Market was probably to distinguish standard engines and SPs. When the cadet motors were sealed the perceived good ones used to change hands for way more than current SPs and sellecting of parts has alwYs been part and parcel of this class. Out of the box can be hit of miss. I was luck to buy an absolute cracker when I first started but others have been pants. SP creAts a more level playing field and removes the doubt that it is down to engines. How much difference does it make?? Well you have to compare good prep on both Sps and tuned but last year at Teesside MS Lucas back to back tested sps with a pair of £400 off the shelf and the difference was a whopping tenth.

Welshy made the point on prep. So much time and attention to detail is paid to our karts before we get to the track. Stripped, cleaned, worn and damaged parts replaced set up measured and adjusted as required, carbs and clutches cleaned and set up, valve cleArances checked and adjusted, fuel filter and pump cleaned, bearings and chains flushed and lubes , engine oil replaced, tyre stored in appropriate conditioned environment. Never mind the personal kit. Bottom line is nothing is left to chance and all that comes with skill and experience and then you have to consider the true test which is driver ability which takes way longer than most appreciate to get consistent. But for me, the killer ingredient in how team MS/lard are so quick has naff all to do with any of that is is purely down to the awesome catering facilities provided by our Gordon. He has the Midas touch and am sure he does something with his bacon that has to be worth at least a tenth!!

But the reason we have Elite and clubman works to separate the hobby racers from the front runners. Is it right to compare clubman performance with the elite winners??
