I've seen it many times before when a dominant force has wrecked a perfectly good championship. It's the perceived cost and effort required to compete. That puts people off.
Teams / Drivers that win all the time that are consistently competing at one place tend to hurt the grid size. Unpredictable results is probably what attracts people, because it gives hope.
I think utopian vision of quality attracting quality, is a bit naive!
The quality is only appearing at club meetings to sell karts... There is no national shop window anymore so the manufacturers and importers have to come club racing. Is it good for the long term health of the club meetings, who knows?
