my view on this is that paraffin and water do not mix and so will not flush it out very well,and carb cleaner is a solvent not a water dispersant.better to leave out the flushing with water and just use carb cleaner after the paraffin.although a carb is not pourous there are many places where water could collect and could be difficult to remove unless you have an airline,but each to their own
most dirt gets into the carb through the fuel tank/line or through the bowl vent not through the paper carb gaskets as these are after the air/fuel has been mixed
