Hi, if the sprocket has a split in it, it may well have opened up when you bolted it to the carrier. If the split runs through one of the bolt holes, make sure there is no bolt in that hole.
Alternatively, fit a new sprocket
We had exactly the problem you describe which I cured when I took the bolt out of the hole with the split across it.
You could also try what Brian suggested but check the axle instead of the sprocket
