Well done skippy!
That's a strange one.... an Aussie who ISN'T arrogant..... (tee hee)!
  Go for it mate.....
Being honest, no form of karting is cheap: people spend as much as they can afford in ALL the classes and it's never enough..... unless you're Dad owns Philip Morris Tobacco (and that HAS happened.....) or is a Saatchi (and that, TOO!).
Don't rush ionto buying.... no one has EVER lost oput by looking around BEFORE they commit.
Another option would be to look-up Club-100 and think about trying those out, first. Another option would be, arive-and-drive Prokarting. Many trackis offer such races, usually as an 'endurance' race (2 or 3 hours) foir a group mof up to 6 drivers sharing the time. Tracks offering such meetings can usually arrange for you to try them out on a practice day, as well.
  Anyway.... just some more thoughts....
