the turned edge/bellmouth is there for structural rigidity. So removing the edge may leave it prone to become mishaped during heatup.

Only way to check is to try a spare drum during a test day.Stick the rec counter lead on the engine and check the results. If you get lots of unwanted revs and clutch slip ...
