Really I'm glad the regs are working, pro-karting is probably the best option for budget karting that the UK has to offer. Those who know me probably appreciate that I'm not just trying to cause trouble. I genuinely believe that things could be done better through out karting, in the UK and yes especially in France, it's only money and vested interests that stops it happening. With Honda's it's mightily simple to do, it's done effectively elsewhere in the world and just requires a simple but well thought out buy back scheme, this would kill off unequal engines for good and stabalise the growth of the class.
Because building fast GX engines isn't rocket science, I don't even believe that the current crop of so called SP engines have reached anywhere near their potential, quality has been replaced by quantity.
A good very well funded and equiped engine builder could take things to another level again. If I was in the UK I'd be tempted to have a go myself (or not lol). But the point I'm trying to make is, if the class were to really take off it would only be a matter of time before this would happen and costs would spiral again, as the arms race gets going.
For myself, for many reasons, you will be glad to hear you won't be seeing me in a pro-kart paddock any time soon. I no longer have any interest in competing in karting where engine regs don't makes things as equal as possible. Been there, done that and we've got the cups to prove it. I used to see it as an opportunity to progress, now I'd rather go directly to the cup shop, rather than win on the basis that you have faster engines.
