An exquisite challenge I imagine, to get the new engine just right. And a delicate path, too much power and it destroys the market for existing engines, too little and it pumps prices of old engines for years to come.

Despite my comments above, I congratulate those involved for taking the bull by the horns. I wish the French had done the same when the GX120 was given an emmissions makeover. On this engine (unlike the GX160) the ignition timing was changed by 5 degrees as well as the piston and rings for the Tier 3 engine, which dropped power by 10%. Honda France and the FFSA refused to accept officially (still won't) that there was any diffence in performance. Result I still spend my days searching for old GX120 blocks because anyone who wants to be competitive must base their engine around a 4 year old block, which is on average 8/10th's to a second faster. Plainly this is absurd and a wall I have banged my head against for as long. Which might explain a few things.

Although honda have only 1 more year of overlap here before they are dumped completely for Micromax, it will be amusing to watch them try and sell the same story with the UT2 engine.
