the poor idle and soot sound like too rich or severe misfire.

time for a few Q's...

- is the engine needing a decoke?
- what oil was it running on?
- does a plug change help the idle?
- any mods done to the valve timing?
- any mods done to the ignition timing/removal of key?
- what sort of compression reading does the engine have?
