Many things shouldn't be used, e.g.:-

1) washing up liquid (too much salt, believe it or not, and that can 'etch' the rim)

2) Oil, WD40, grease (can affect the tyres and can be mis-detected by tyre checking equipment as 'tyre softener')

You are best to use water or, ideally, tyre soap/paste (scrounge it from your local tyre fitting depot).,.... or something like this:-
