The clubman price of £450 plus vat is fair when u take into consideration the engine cost about £250 out the box add in the cost of degoverning the engine adding the pulse pump and engine cover fitting a debaffled exhaust and setting the valve clearances and springs plus fitting of the restrictor and changing of the jets I feel this price is fair and it is fixed by the msa but sp motors r running away at silly prices they used to be £750 to £850 which for a true sp was good value and reasonable but what is now happening is engines with good pedigree are fetching upto £4000 and so the sp engines from the builders have gone up dramatically u r now looking at £1500 but you r going to need to spend at least 30 hours plus servicing on these engines just in the hope that they will come up to somewhere close to these so called pedigree engines. I hope and think that kelvin and the msa are trying to help by setting the timing tolerances at a specified level so that everyone is starting from the same point but I also think that the engine price of an sp needs to be capped from the engine builders to a reasonable level. Say £1000 inc vat then this way u have clubman at say £500 and sp at £1000 people can then easily decide which class to race in. clubman engines and racing is very close and most engines are equal it really comes down to driver ability. But in cadets sp u have very big differences in engines a very good t1 can cope with a good t2 but there are some stonking t2s and the t1 can't touch them neither can the good t2s. It's embarrassing watching some races. I appreciate a more experienced driver will get the best from a good engine and that a less experienced driver may not be capable of using a good engine to its maximum. But this year we were restricted and should have gone supposedly 0.5 seconds on ave slower but no lap records that had stood for 2 or even 4 years were being broken its impossible and shouldn't of happened all clubs should have been putting in a lap record before restrictors and a lap record after. I think that no matter what happens the new t2 is a better engine than the t1 only because u r able to rev much higher and possibly the build quality is better. Those people with very good t1s I would keep them those who are looking at starting out or up grading t2 all the way as good parts for the t1 will be hard to come by in a few years as production slows and adventually stops . Good luck to everyone I'm hoping next year is more even for everyone
