The reason for my clarification covers the variances of the side-cover and the wear of locking tool etc. Fundamentally it is a measurement from TDC and the gauge simply determines whether the leading edge of the magnet is within tolerance.

Whether it be wear or variance on the side cover or whatever ultimately I would have thought that true TDC is true TDC and the locking tool is a quick method of determining if further inspection is required.

I therefore suppose that leads on to the question around crankcase and crankshaft combinations with the tool that could present the opportunity to achieve a further advancement than is permitted from true TDC (assuming this is beneficial). The quick test would suggest it would be legal yet in actual fact it could be illegal.

With that in mind (and picking up on Mark's point) it might be worth specifying an actual measurement that the leading edge should be from true TDC.

As regards T1 v T2 if ignition timing isn't going to solve the disparity issue then could we not look at a further simple solution. Kelvin I know we have discussed this before but given that the T1 is currently permitted to run with 4 gx200 head gaskets whilst the t2 has just 1 the small differences between the outputs could quite easily be closed further through either the addition of a 2nd or 3rd gasket to the T2 or the removal of 1 or 2 from the T1. It makes no difference at Super 1 level as I would imagine everyone will be on the same spec motor but club level (and where most of the racing occurs) it will make a difference an preserve the life of the older motors for a little longer than at present.
