Mark. I won't deny that the lasers are definitely quicker to use.

For me, it's just hard to knock a tape measure out of alignment....

I built (years ago) a set of 'dummy' wheels. These a just large alloy disks with their own hubs mounted to them. When I wanted to check tracking/camber, I just slipped the wheels and front hubs off and replaced them with the tracking disks. It was then the simplest job to measure between the disks. The 'disks' don't even need to be round. Square or oblong is fine.
