though a tape sounds fine and alot cheaper i use lasers due i fit tracking discs and rest my feet on top of the pedals so the beam can go under my legs, this enables me to set up kart with my weight in kart as it would be in a race, this has to be better than doing it with a tape without the driver in the kart ??
