The only good reason for getting good engines now is psychological, if you think your engines are slower you will blame them and not your driving. If you think you can manage your brain not to think this, you can probably make do with what you have for a good while.

I've seen it many times. Usaully it's the parents see litle Johnie get to a level where they think he is only slower because they don't have the best kit or even that all the faster guys must be cheating.

Swapping karts or engines for a session soon sorts that nonsense out.
