I've seen several broken cases this way. All you need is a 13mm ring spanner and a small hammer. Put the spanner on at 90% and tap, the engine compression is enough to stop the engine turning and the small shock enough to release the bolt.

To install, pull the recoil out a little way a grip it against the engine case. This will lock the engine enough to do up the bolt, with a bit of loctite of course.
