The engine mounts can be put on whatever way round you need them to be to enable you to best fit the chain run and sprocket carrier position in relation to the rear wheel to enable as much width adjustment of the rear track as you can get ...
You can even re-drill the mounts if needed to suit your requirements ...
You say the sprocket carrier wont move in far enough , have you got the hub of the carrier ( the bit with the bolt thru ) facing outwards towards the end of the axle as this will help with sprocket changes also as the mounting flange for the sprocket will be on the outside .
