All things that reduce combustion chamber volume are good. Reduction of friction, gas flow and cylinder sealing are also important. Despite being a relatively simple engine the list is almost endless, when you couple that with ever changing casting moulds and parts specifications for standard parts, you understand why, year on year the engines get faster as tuners look for and find more and more ways of increasing performance.

Just recently a batch of GX120's arrived that are over 5% more powerful than previous ones, that was better carbs, heads and deck heights, it's no different for the 160 I'm sure.
