there is a slight radius on the crankshaft that 'spreads' the clutch roller bearing. Protect the bearing by fitting a snug washer on the crankshaft before fitting the clutch. The washer then prevents the bearing riding up the radius.

btw, a piston stop can be used to hold the crankshaft when undoing either end of the crank assembly.
and if you are struggling for a diy piston stop then remove the plug and feed some rope down inside the cylinder, turn crank until everything stops and bingo... undo clutch or flywheel.
