Yep, brand new engines, as opposed to just new rings, need a bit more caution. But in my opinion it's the swarf that does the damage rather than how you run it in. Which is why you should change the oil very often, especially on premium new engines. If you've just spent a load of money and or time on a parts selected engine, then a few litres of oil is worth it.

These things are so simple to work on (as opposed to finding the performance which is more difficult), why not pull the side cover off after half an hour and rinse out the crankcase.
