sounds like a lot of guessing going on and no chance of quickly pinning down the problem...

to help solve it from a distance:
# do you use a rev counter?
# do you use a lap timer?
# what was your running in regime, exactly?
# the change in exhaust note suggests altered timing so check both ign and valve timing again.
