OK, rebuilt it tonight, piston seems to run up and down the bore more smoothly now, I have set the air gap to 0.2mm (8 thou), ignition and valve timing are both standard, I have lapped the valves in, stuck some new gx 140 valve springs in, set the tappets to 0.1 and 0.2 respectively so, let's see how she goes!
Oh, and BTW, I have removed the governor gubbins from the cam gear - is that wise? I can't see that it was doing anything so it went.
