The price I quoted was in the context of the comment about how little a certain engine builder was making and represented a rough trade price for this type of engine. The ones mentioned on Ebay and at Dartford are actually very competively priced, only other thing I can suggest is to visit your local Honda Mower dealer and offer him a sponsorship deal, ask for trade price on engines and spares in exchange for his name on your kart/van.
This worked for me when I first started.
