take the chain off, put a pointer close, and solidly, to the teeth of the back sprocket and rotate the axle. Look for irregular gaps between pointer and each tooth.

If the sprocket turn eccentric you have an oval sprocket or it is mounted incorrectly/not equal on the shoulder of the carrier.

If the sprocket turns with equal gaps between teeth and pointer you can discount the axle, bearings and sprocket carrier/sprocket.

Chances are the chain is stretched and needs renewal.
