Well id sooner use none than exsessive amount, if u ram it full of mobil red grease it throws it into the drum and wrecks the clutch. id use any lube, high melting point is maybe better like lard points out but I used to use kartcare lubin12 which is for axel bearings but u only need a small amount on your finger. I've never had and leakage into the drum and never had a bearing fail so I don't think much fuss needs to be made
As for maintenance, do as lard says, really do make sure u dry the bearing by using blue roll before u apply your fresh lube
