just alternate directions when rubbing and the crosshatching will be fine. You are just removing glaze and taking the shine off the bore.

The grade of wet and dry will just decide how long it takes. You will be hard pressed to damage the bore if you stick with wet and dry rather than emery paper which can be too rough.
