As you say with a young driver it's all about introducing good practice and not reinforcing errors. We were very lucky because we had the tracks we trained at to ourselves more often than not. This mean't we were able to dissect the track corner by corner and ensure we knocked any errors on the head quickly. Of course the other skill is getting a driver to correctly explain handling or engine issues, this is something you need to teach rather than expect to come naturally. At least that's the approach we took and it seemed to work.
