with a split sprocket you don't move the axle. You just twist the sprocket apart and slide it over the axle.

just remembered... we used axle collars and a single sprocket protector. (belt and braces fix but never lost a chain after fitting them).
50mm axles mis-shape easily when overtightening grub screws... (making axle removal harder than it should be).
TopTip-Use axle collars and only nip bearing grub screws
