I was contemplating posting something similar after a discussion with a few prokarters recently. Its a shame to see such an enjoyable class getting less. I think its quite an important one to keep alive, most would be lost without it. Endurance is doing ok with Epec but sprint is low everywhere as we all know.

I think one major issue is the class is no attractive to new drivers especially younger ones. They start in a Honda Cadet, and usually head off to Rotax where their parents go bust and they become heart broken at the fact they cant cut the mustard because they havent got the biggest cheque book.

Some go onto Prokart or JNR Prokart but even then the attraction is not there to take it further, the speed and excitment of a 2stroke is much bigger than a Honda, although i can safely say Honda is much better from experience.

Perhaps to make it more attractive we need to look at taking the class back to what it once was when everyone built their own motors. Buying engines has become a joke, 1200 plus for a engine that can be found on a building site in raw form. And the rebuild costs are a bigger joke that would put anyone off. My ifea would be a modified series, which would being alot of old engines back which have become of no use after the T2 was born, it would make the class quicker, then possibly have a softer tyre bringing the lap times down even more so the younger kids would consider it over a rotax.

How it would be done is complicated but with time im sure someone would get it right. I realise modifying can often make peoplw think MONEY but i know of people in modified classes who get serious power from garage build engines.

Buy back is a good way of going about it but the stumbling block is the fact people have spent a fortune on Selected Engines, so they stand to loose a fortune.

The S1 rumor would also be a good idea of Pool engines where you turn up and pick engines at random and return them after the meeting. again the initial start up would need to be thrashed out, and the cost again raises eye brows but there are always ways and means.

Just a few ideas people have discussed with that i thought id share, please dont shoot me for sharing them :-D

P.s i think Martin Capenhurst should look at the pool engines for Kartmania, MSA sprint needa more support otherwise the MSA will get their way and rid the hondas from the grids!
